Work With Us

Financial and administrative professionals seeking work with “heart rewards”.

CHARITYacCOUNTS! is expanding. If you’re interested in part-time work as a Controller of charities, ask us about the benefits of working with community charities.  We are seeking experienced accountants interested in working 15 to 25 hours per week working with the most compassionate people in our community.  Our schedules are flexible around school or other commitments, but we commit to a regular schedule to meet the needs of the charity.

The positions are permanent, part-time with flexibility needed around year-end and normal accounting deadlines.  They are not appropriate for someone looking for full-time employment.  CHARITYacCOUNTS! compensation is commensurate with education and experience and is comparable to the not-for-profit sector that we serve.

Controllers

Controllers are the senior financial executive working closely with Executive Directors and Board to ensure financial reporting is accurate, complete and as predictable as possible.  We bring business practices, controls and technology expertise to complement the program knowledge of the charities.

We manage the “business” side of the charity.  We are hands-on accountants who control management reporting, database integration, budgets, grant reporting, audit liaison as well as reporting to CRA – Charities Directorate.  Controllers have excellent communication skills to work with non-financial executives.  Controllers work with a number of charities and will spend 1 to 5 days per month with each entity.

Controllers are designated accountants (CPA-CA, CPA-CMA, CGA) and have a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience.

Accountants

Accountants maintain the day-to-day records of the charities.  They record cash receipts, cash disbursements, payroll, bank reconciliations and project reporting.  They report to a CHARITYacCOUNTS! Controller who will review their work, provide problem solving support and direct them in systems and procedures.  They work on-site or at the CHARITYacCOUNTS! Oakville office.

Accountants work with a number of charities and will spend anywhere from 2 days to 12 days per month with each entity.  Bookkeepers are detail oriented, focused, hard-working accountants able to work independently and know when to ask for direction.   They work with all levels of charity staff and value the contribution made by fundraisers and front-line staff.  They understand that the accounting staff exists to support the program offered by the charity.  They communicate easily with non-accounting personnel.

Application Process

If you an Accountant with a Heart and want to live and work contributing to the betterment of your community, please send your resume along with a letter detailing your interest in part-time work to giat-CacC@bell.net .   We are sorry but telephone inquiries or emails to Karen@charityaccounts.ca will not be considered as they interfere with our ongoing work.   Thank you for your interest, only candidates selected for interview will be contacted.
